I went through the same exact thing while I was working full-time as a nurse, running half marathons, and attempting to feed my severe case of wanderlust.

I was eating healthy more than 80% of the time and getting plenty of exercise, but my pants kept getting tighter. I required a cup of coffee in my hands at all times between the hours of 2 and 4pm if I was supposed to be doing something other than napping.

I started having to call in sick to work because I was so tired that I could not get out of bed. My stomach was upset all the time and I was so insecure about my body that I only wore yoga pants and sweatshirts outside of work. I saw four different doctors and not a single one of them could tell me what was happening. The best “advice” I got after I gained 10lbs in two weeks was to make sure I was tracking what I was eating.

Instead of giving up, I decided to solve my own problem. I spent hours researching and reading about what could possibly be causing my symptoms. I even went back to school to become a nurse practitioner. It turns out, everything I thought I knew about being healthy and eating right, was actually wrong. And most doctors are just as clueless.

Most people go to see their doctor when they aren’t feeling great. They know something is wrong, but can’t put their finger on it. The doctor might draw some labs and ask about your symptoms, but most of the time they say “you’re fine, there’s nothing wrong with you.”
