HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK:
My meal prep was not as organized as it was the previous week, but that did not mean we didn't eat well. We had steak...twice, as well as some other delicious dishes. I'm also still getting used to my new macros, which is always a challenge. When you are following a macro plan you get really used to a certain amount of food and it's pretty easy to put together the right combinations to get where you need to be. When that changes, it's hard to make the adjustment. Now, I'm most certainly not complaining about eating more food, but it's actually been a challenge to get all the food in.
My meal prep plan for next week needs to focus on things that can be made in giant batches and frozen so when we come back from the trip we are headed out on next weekend and have to go straight back to work, we will have something to eat.
Here's what I'm thinking will get made for next week:
Golden Cauliflower Soup (I have some frozen cauliflower that needs to be used up)
And probably something else with chicken...because that's how I roll.
Here's my workout summary for the week (currently in week 2 of base 1 for a half ironman triathlon):
- Swim - 3725 yds (1:40)
- Bike - 18.6 miles (2:35)
- Run - 14.2 miles (2:59)
Solid week. I'm really happy with the way it went. Also, I didn't miss a workout for 8 days in a row! I missed my bike on Friday morning, but I still did my swim. So, 11 days of near perfect working out. The workouts themselves were not perfect (if you follow me on Instagram you saw that I posted about this), but that was not the point. The point was that I'm trying to build better habits by just getting them done on a daily basis (I did take my one rest day). After the habit is there, it's easier to focus on quality. Yes, some of them were quality workouts, but I didn't worry about the quality, I worried about getting it done...and I did.
Also, for anyone who is trying to meet any sort of goal, workout with people who are better and faster than you. Seriously. In my swim group on Friday evening, after an abysmal showing last week, I beat both a speed and distance record this week. I totally thought that I was sucking it up big time until the end when I realized that I was significantly faster and had swum farther than ever before. I was chasing two people in my lane who are faster than me. Whoa.
So, if you want to get faster/better. Find people who are faster/better than you at something and hang out with them. Chase them. Learn from them. And get faster/better. End of story.

It's like a dirty little secret, because you can work on yourself and no one needs to know, but then suddenly you are projecting different energy into the world and influencing people in a different way...all through a little introspection and inner work on your part. This is meat we brought back with us when we went to Vermont over Christmas. Free second checked bag? Fill a box full of meat and bring it home! Sometimes you have to get creative to get what you want!
