Apparently we are having spring (again) in January. Mother Nature has decided to suck the joy out of winter and give us either frigid temps or balmy, rainy weather but not provide any snow. Snow is the only thing that keeps Alaskans sane during the winter.
It's been warm for a few days, but it got downright nasty the other day (conveniently while Kiva and I were out running). It started raining and we started slipping and sliding. I'm pretty resilient when it comes to working out in various weather catastrophes (extreme cold, excessive rain, snow storms), but this weather ruined what was shaping up to be an awesome workout.
Anyway, we took a day off yesterday, along with the Anchorage School District…which hardly ever happened while I was in school but I feel like it has happened at least once or twice a year for the last few years. We went for a walk in the afternoon with Amber, Ben, and Sebastian, which was sloppy but slightly more pleasant than a run would have been. Our walk was interesting, Ben spotted a person in the woods in a sleeping back and yelled to see if they were alright. When he got no response, he called the police. Turns out she was ok, just sleeping, and the cops knew her, she's apparently one of their "regulars." We were relieved to discover that we had not discovered a dead body.
The only positive that I can find in all this crazy weather is that it makes for some dramatic scenery.
After our walk, some yoga, and a trip to Fred Meyer, I joined Jack and Brittany for a spaghetti dinner. It's good to have friends who have kids who have to cook dinner even if their husbands are out of town!
Today is going to be a busy day. I have a lunch date, track, and a dinner date! I hope I don't get overwhelmed by all of the social interaction.
