Pineapple Green Smoothie

Focusing on getting as many nutrient dense foods into your diet as possible is a key to getting and staying healthy. That doesn't mean that your food will taste bad or be overly complicated. I don't generally recommend smoothies to people unless they are trying to get extra nutrition because you can pack a surprising number of calories into one little glass without realizing it. However, if you pay careful attention to what you put in, they can be an effective way to get extra nutrition without excessive calories.

Since I'm tracking my macros and training for a half ironman triathlon, I struggle some days to get enough food in the right combinations into my body. I started having a green smoothie for a morning snack and am loving this tweak to my diet so far!

The fiber from the greens in this smoothie is excellent for your digestive health and pineapple is full of vitamin C which is an important antioxidant that contributes to immune health. So not only are you getting some balanced protein and carbs, you are getting a ton of vitamins and minerals too!

I add two drops of an essential oil blend for detoxification to my smoothie, but that's totally optional. It's a mix of tangerine, rosemary, geranium, juniper berry, and cilantro essential oils. It supports healthy functioning of the liver and kidneys to rid the body of unwanted substances. I don't necessarily believe in "detoxes" as a thing, but I think that supporting the body's natural ability to detoxify is important.
