Here are photos from the rest of my trip to California (i.e. the non-running part).

We drove out past San Simeon (where the Hearst Castle is) to a beach where elephant seals go to birth their babies and then hang out for three months.  Apparently they give birth to 80lb babies that grow to over 300lb in a little over three months.  The females lay here on the beach for those three months and feed their young.  They don't go out to hunt or eat, they just feed and raise their babies.

We also checked out the sea otters in Morro Bay.  Here they are all wrapped up in kelp so they won't float away.
