Lavaman Training - Week 7

This week Lavaman training was about the same as week 6, but with a whole different set of problems. I think I am the kind of person that does not do well with zero structure to my day/week. Last week was the last week of my break from school and I worked two days...and that was it. While I have no problem filling time, I do have a problem with motivation to do things that I need to do (or should be doing) when I have unlimited amounts of free time. Good thing I have a few years before I retire to solve that problem...

Rather than dwell on the things that did not go well, I'm going to highlight what did go well and then talk about what I can do better for the next week.

The Good

I ran 6 miles for my long run. I've been worried about the fact that I haven't been running very well (or very much), so instead of tackling an hour and a half run like I was supposed to, I decided to just go out and see how long it would take me to run 6 miles (for some reason that was mentally easier for me than thinking about a 1:30 run). It took me about 1:10, which means that I'm running faster because two weeks ago when my long run was 1:10, I only ran 5 miles. Progress.

I also did two days of some strength training! I haven't done that in a long time. Saturday after my long run I did some abs, but I really didn't push myself hard because everything I did made my rib hurt (I broke a rib about 2.5 months ago) and I'm worried about making that worse now that it finally doesn't hurt when I do normal things (like breathe or move my arm).

Room for Improvement

While I'm a firm believer in listening to your body, I need to be more aware of when I'm actually tired and need to rest versus when I'm lazy tired and want to rest. I think not running on Tuesday was a moderately good choice (I probably should have gone for a short easy run instead of just not running), but the other extra rest days were laziness and lack of initiative.

I skipped my second swim workout too. This was 100% related to the fact that I didn't have anywhere to be in the morning and I just didn't get up in time to swim. If I'd had to be at work or clinical I would have been up anyway and I probably would have gone. This will solve itself next week when I have no days off.

My goal for next week (recovery week!) is to do something every day.
