home (un)improvement

It all started a couple of weeks ago with the heater.  More specifically, the thermostat.  We have a programmable thermostat that is programmed so the house is warm when we're home and awake, and not as warm when we're gone or sleeping.  Apparently it now runs the show.  It's set to be at 68 degrees while we're home.  Currently, the temperature in our house ranges anywhere from 62 to 66 degrees (when the thermostat says that it's programmed to keep the house at 68 degrees)...sometimes.  Other times, it works just fine.  I find 62 degrees indoors to be a little chilly when it's 0 degrees outside.  Brrr! Our washing machine has also decided to stage a revolt against the chilly weather.  I put in a load of laundry, only to come back several hours later and discover that my clothes were sitting in a washer full of cold water.  Apparently the drain pipe freezes if you don't do laundry for four days when your washer backs up to an outside wall in the garage and it hasn't gotten above 15 degrees in several days. It's a good thing I'm a collector of fine (and warm) outerwear...because I'll need something to wear while fishing my underwear out of the frigid waters in the washer. On a more positive note, the hallway is finally painted (I've been working on that project for a long time) AND we are finally going to get around to replacing the floor in the kitchen.
